Date Description
31 Mar 04 Well I've mainly just been enjoying my beautiful machine but there have been a couple of enhancements, including an optional 2 player control panel, a big glowing coin button and two seperate screen bevels for horizontal or vertical orientation.
31 Dec 03 IT LIVES. My beautiful creature lives. They said I was mad. MAD? I'll show them who's mad!!! My arcade cabinets will herald the dawn of a new golden age of man!!! No one will ever need to live without a quick shot at their Galaga highscore again!!! Baaa Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Haaaaaa!!!!!!
30 Dec 03 Dissembled cabinet, filled screw holes, sanded and painted in my temporary spray booth.
25 Dec 03 As is traditional in my household, on Christmas day we all celebrate by conducting a test assembly of our arcade cabinets.
23 Dec 03 Pulled the whole thing apart and reassembled with PVA glue, and cut out and assembled the control panel. It's looking all arcadey.
21 Dec 03 A Big weekend, but the monitor stand and screen bevel are in place and the cabinet is ready to start fitting out. Thankyou MAME! This is going to be the most bestest Christmas EVER!!!
20 Dec 03 Put in a good day's work on the cabinet, and it's really taken shape. Cabinet making is SO much more productive than IT. If this was software I'd still be trying to find the right screwdriver to use, because all the generic ones only screwed things in halfway...
18 Dec 03 I've started building the cabinet! Last night I cut the sides out of MDF, sanded them up and clamped them to the base. Looks just like the model! Woo hoo!
12 Dec 03 I-PAC arrived, the TANK was gutted, plugged into the I-PAC and my USB port within a couple of hours, and low and behold there were the guts of the Space Invader. Space Invader guts all over the shop. Blew away several high scores within a few more hours. Gamepads suck man. I've also got a 16mb Voodoo video card for $35 from ebay, seems to have made a difference. The system copes with most classic arcade games up to Raiden, which runs quite well with the frame rate dipping occasionally. I think thats my limit. )c:
5 Dec 03 Bought PC and monitor this week. I now have a working dedicated MAME setup, albeit with a gamepad still.
1 Dec 03 Started planning cabinet and hardware requirements. Ordered I-PAC interface from UK.
29 Nov 03 Noted gamepad fundamentally flawed. Remembered reading something about DIY MAME cabinets that people were building. Looked it up.
28 Nov 03 Installed MAME on my home PC for the first time after reading about it that day. Played Galaga, had religious experience.
