LINKS
SOFTWARE
  • MAME
The official MAME website where you can find out up to date information on the king of arcade emulators and download the current version.

  • Game Launcher
I like this front end, its basic but highly configurable. The look fits in with the arcade games. It seems wrong to have a multi-windowed graphic intensive front end that takes you through to a game of pac-man, ya know what I mean?

  • ROMS - Play Again
MAME 0.77 game ROMs, all of them. French language site but relatively few pop ups, relatively fast and no membership required. As I am sure you are aware these ROM images are protected by copyright and it is illegal to possess them without owning the original game. I am certainly not endorsing downloading ROM images illegally, if you are even thinking of doing that you are an evil bastard. I'm just pointing out a website that has them all available, so if you have a game PCB that is damaged you can still get a good copy, for instance. There are loads of perfectly legal uses for a site like this. "Jeux" is French for game. Have a tres bon time.

  • WinCab mp3 Jukebox.
This is by far the best mp3 Jukebox software for MAME cabinets IMHO. Give it a go, it's free and it provides a whole other dimension to your cabinet.
HARDWARE
  • Ultimarc
UK manufacturer of I-PAC, J-PAC and a variety of conversion hardware. Delivers to Australia via Airborne Express, or available through OzStick.

  • OzStick
Australian Company offering MAME compatible controllers, parts, and even a ready to go cocktail cabinet. Also stock Ultimarc components.

KNOW HOW
  • Build Your Own Arcade Controls
Another great resource that covers control construction step by step with a variety of approaches, and also covers other aspects of cabinet construction.

  • MameWorld MAME installation Tutorial
Excellent step-by-step guide to installing MAME and ROMs, perfect for the novice user. I know for a fact that not everyone who wants to play classic games is some kind of computer geek, some of us are other varieties of geek.

  • Cocktail MAME Cabinet
Another good Aussie site detailing a cocktail cabinet conversion.

  • Google Directory for Arcade Cabinet Construction
Big resource with loads of great sites.

  • Classic Cabinets
A practical guide that emphasises the need for beer during both construction and use.

  • Killer List of Video Games
A very handy resource if, for one reason or another, you have troubles remembering which games it is you used to like. I haven't thought of one I couldn't find here with screen shots, cabinet shots, manuals, you name it.
